A Message from our Chairman, Steven C. Markoff
- Organization Change: The ProCon websites of the A-Mark Foundation were spun off into a new and independent 501(c)(3) organization, ProCon.org.The mission of ProCon.org is “to promote informed citizenship by presenting controversial issues in a straightforward, non-partisan pro/con format.” Read About Us for more information on our organization.
- Traffic: The overall hit traffic to ProCon sites increased from 277,277 in 2003 to 1,243,518 in 2004 — an increase of nearly 450%. November 2004 was our busiest month with over 149,000 unique visits to our ProCon sites.
- Topics: In the last year, the number of ProCon topics expanded from five to eight. The new topics added in 2004 were:
- “Born Gay – Is Sexual Orientation Determined at Birth?”
- “Is the ACLU Good for America?”
- “Should the words ‘under God’ be in the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance?”
- Staff: The organization grew from a staff of four to a staff of six — four Researchers, one Managing Editor, and me.
- Financials: We raised $86,326 in the last five months of 2004 (ProCon.org was incorporated on Aug. 1, 2004), of which we spent $85,802 – about 99.4%. Of our expenditures, $77,629 (90.4%) went towards program services expenditures and $8,173 (9.6%) went to management and general expenses.
We look for 2005 to bring even more visitors to the ProCon.org sites. To help achieve that goal, we plan on introducing several new topics, more interactive features, and additional content to our existing sites.
