Jadwiga S.Z.-Markoff, Board Member Emeritus

Dr. Markoff was born and raised in Poland, where she received a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree with Honors and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pharmacology, both from the Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice. After immigrating to the United States in 1984, she received a postdoctoral fellowship from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she conducted research in the field of psychoneuropharmacology.

In Poland, Dr. Markoff served as the Co-Chair and Assistant Head of the Intensive Care Unit at the Department of Children’s Diseases at the Silesian Medical Academy. She was also an Assistant Research Professor in the Academy’s Department of Pharmacology. Dr. Markoff received a 2nd degree specialization in Pediatrics.

Dr. Markoff is the author and co-author of over 20 papers and the recipient of numerous honors, including the 1st Degree Team Award of the National Minister of Health (Poland) for her pharmacological research, and the Golden Award “Primus Inter Pares” for high scholastic standing. While still at the Silesian Medical Academy, she was invited to participate in student fellowships in Spain and a fellowship in Japan for her work in pharmacology. She speaks English, Polish, Russian, and Esperanto.
