– NEW: Chart of Energy Use by State and by Source, 2008 – In 2008, the US used fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and petroleum) for 83.5% of its energy needs. Renewable energy (wind, solar, and biofuels) accounted for 7.4%. Nuclear energy represented 8.4%. Our new chart breaks down energy use by source for all 50 states, and provides comparative stats and percentages to help understand how states stack up against each other.
