– UPDATED: Historical Timeline: In 1828, New York was the first US state to ban assisted suicide. In 1994, Oregon became the first US state to legalize physician-assisted suicide. By the end of 2008, two other US states ( Washington and Montana) had also legalized physician-assisted suicide.
